Did you know we are growing broccoli, swiss chard, white turnips, sugar peas, white onions, and black kale in the garden by the Farmhouse? Just this past week, we harvested the white turnips with the help of several homeowners. Our first crop was made available to the community and the remaining turnips were donated to the North Texas Food Bank.
Our farmer provided a tasty recipe for turnips in last months newsletter. It's been fun to see Harvest homeowners make yummy dishes using the Harvest turnips!
We would like to take a moment to thank Harvest homeowner Renee Simmons for turning her car into the Harvest turnip truck and taking 292 pounds of turnips to the food bank! That's a lot of turnips! Did you know that 1.2 pounds of food is equivalent to 1 meal? So 292 pounds provided the North Texas Food Bank with 243 meals! To date, Harvest has provided more than 15,880 meals to those in need.
Next week, our resident farmer and homeowners will be cutting the swiss chard! Stay tuned for a yummy recipe for swiss chard!
