March is here which hopefully means the cold weather is behind us! As the soil warms up, it is a great time to begin planning your spring garden. There are a few items which you can begin planting today! Root vegetables, such as beets, carrots, and kohlrabi, as well as leafy greens, such as kale, chard, and lettuces, can all be planted outside now. Be sure to see how long the Days to Maturity is (DTM) and plan for what you want to plant next. i.e. in 2-3 months. Sow the seeds directly in the ground and keep soil moist until sprouted then water every 2 days as needed.
Next, you can look at what you want to plant in trays for our annual spring planting in the greenhouse. This is an event where residents bring their own seeds and plant them in trays. (I provide soil and trays, you just bring the seeds). Your trays will stay in the greenhouse until April in the event there is one last freeze (typically early-mid April). I will water your plants and keep them warm until you move them to your garden plot. Below are the dates:
Spring Planting:
Saturday, March 10th at 10:00 am
Saturday, March 24th at 10:00 am
Pick-up Trays from Greenhouse:
Saturday, April 14th at 9:00 am
This spring is going to be filled with life and growth and I am happy we're on this journey together!
~All of the best,
